Connection to Ancestors Series

Armantrout's process on this painting and the one that followed included listening to the music from the Honor the Earth Tour. The painting, "Power Image No. 7-Connection to Ancestors", was the inspiration for Linda's exploration of rock art and the connections cultural, spiritual, historic, and prehistoric found in these global symbols. The making of marks over marks allows Armantrout to explore the push/pull of shallow space in her picture plane, and the play between abstract and representational. The complex ambiguities of timelessness or emptiness, of concise or deep are worthy of exploration in process and content. The image of the horse continues to be a cross-cultural icon. This exploration of ideas is refered to as the Connection to Ancestors Series.

May in the Studio

"The art process is an integration of your life. It is the whole process of living. The artwork itself, the finished piece is secondary. The ultimate goal is the process, the understanding of values and relationships, the perception of life in its totality."—Edith Niblo, teacher DPS.  May has been a month of reading and rumination in the Studio. Spring has been warm and the Studio extends outdoors to a yard filled with flowers that came early this year. Linda has planned the material for a 3 day Workshop in Ridgway... and a series of 12x12 inch paintings from the yard begins next week.
