New York Times 11-8-11

The New York Times reported on a scientific paper on research linking DNA of modern spotted horses to the horses of the Stone Age depicted in France's Pech-Merle caves. Terry O'Connor is quoted as saying "people drew spotty horses because they saw spotty horses."Linda Armantrout began her painting series "Connection to Ancestors" in 2007 with Power Image #7. She finds validation for her visual exploration in this ancient DNA science and in the Herzog film, "Cave of Forgotten Dreams". She began a mixed media piece of the spotty horses of Pech-Merle as a background for her re-presentation of a modern spotted horse.
