ARTIST ARMANTROUT TO EXHIBIT AT SPS SALIDA

Following the One who Knows the Way/60"x48" Oil paintingSellars Project Space is pleased to present the work of Colorado artist Linda Armantrout in an exhibition of new works titled, Following the One Who Knows the Way. This exhibition opens with a reception for the artist on Saturday, May 9th, 2015 from 5 - 8 p.m. during the Salida Artists’ Second Saturday Gallery Tour and will continue through June 8th, 2015.

Armantrout’s work uses the form of the moving horse, and other symbolically charged animals and people, as a metaphor for the power of spirit. Her process includes meditation, sketching, drawing, and color theory. She manipulates both line and color to make energy and emotions visible. This body of work evolved from an exploration of the layers of meaning found in common symbols, both prehistoric and historic, and of the universality of the symbols found in our spiritual ancestry on cave and rock walls.

Sellars Project Space, celebrating it’s 25th year, is located in the creative and historic mountain town of Salida, Colorado. From it’s storefront in the state’s largest historic district, the gallery and store offers visitors a glimpse into the life of mountain living. Open May through September, Sellars Project Space is open Mondays - Fridays from 10 - 2 p.m. and weekends from 11 - 2 p.m. and always by appointment. For more information visit SellarsProjectSpace.com or call (719) 207-4150. Artist and Curator available for interviews. Photographs and video available.

"Power of the Ancients" Sold

Power of the Ancients was inspired by the Altamira Caves in Spain. Linda's work explores connections to shamans, prehistoric and historic global symbols. She plays with the picture plane allowing the viewer to decide if her marks are in front of or on top of the pictographs and petroglyphs that inspire the work. The oil on canvas painting is 40x36 inches. It was sold and beautifully framed at CFA Gallery, 916 Main Street, Louisville, Colorado. Buy Linda's work there and online at Available paintings. Thanks to Janet Russell and new collectors.

Spirit Messengers

Linda is working on a graphite series of Spirit Messengers. The studio is filling up with these 19"x24" pieces on bristol paper...and the positive energy from these incredible teachers. The wolf was thought of as a teacher in ancient times, a pathfinder, forerunner of new ideas, and a power ally of the moon. Linda doesn't know if there will be paintings emerge from this series, but, for now, the Spirit in the drawings is feeling terrific.
